“Upholding English Proficiency for Communicative Competence” was the theme for this school year’s English week which was held last November 21-25, 2011. The participating levels were the intermediate level which is from grades 4-6, and the high school which was divided into two: the 1st year and 2nd year division, and the 3rd year and 4th year division. The elementary and high school departments joined three competitions namely the Reading Journey Corner, Comics Strip and Impromptu Speaking Contest (for high school), and Collage making for literary pieces and Poem Writing (for elementary).
“The reading journey corner aims to enhance the student’s love for reading. It also integrates the values of the students like their cleanliness, orderliness, sense of style and teamwork,” said Ms. Mary Jane Hallig, the high school English chairwoman. “The books should have a proper label or category according to its genre and each section can make their own concepts about their reading journey corner,” added Sir Marlon Mongcal, the elementary chairman. The comics strip and the collage making for literary pieces were the same as its mechanics led to convey the story given to them through a collage and comic drawings. The impromptu speaking contest was exclusively for 4th year level with one question given to them on the spot and they would answer it after then.
