Social Studies Month beefed up history!

                The United Nations (UN) is an international organization whose stated aims are facilitating cooperation in international lawinternational security, economic developmentsocial progress, human rights, and achievement of world peace. The UN was founded in 1945 after World War II to replace the League of Nations, to stop wars between countries, and to provide a platform for dialogue. It contains multiple subsidiary organizations to carry out its missions.
Social studies is the "integrated study of the social sciences and humanities to promote civic competence," as defined by the American National Council for the Social Studies. Social studies is most commonly recognized as the name of a course or set of courses taught in primary and secondary schools or elementary, middle, and secondary schools, but may also refer to the study of aspects of human society at certain post-secondary and tertiary schools around the globe.
This month of October, Social Studies, Spectrum, together with the United Nations were celebrated. Different activities were done during this month. The high school and elementary students had their door exhibit of different countries assigned to them. Winners were announced and awarded. The best door design was chosen per level. Matthew got the crown for the first year level while Galatians in second year, Thessalonians for the third year and James for the fourth year level. Quiz bee for the grade five and six students was also held last November 09, 2011 in the school auditorium. Timothy Laranang from grade 5- Micah was declared as the quiz bee champion. An exhibit was also presented in the auditorium in relation to the United Nations Month with the theme, “International Year of the Forest”. Students’ skills and creativity clearly explained the theme. Different projects were displayed in the exhibit. Different countries with culture, traditions and history were remembered by the students through the celebration of the Social Studies and United Nations Month. <S>
